Legacy has a free version that contains a good array of basic genealogy functionality. The free version is a good product for those who do not want a programme with all the 'bells & whistles'. The fee version lacks some features that make the task of entering and displaying your data easy whereas the deluxe (paid) version has all the features you will ever need.
How do I get Free Legacy? The Legacy web site contains a downloadable version of the latest free version of the Standard Legacy edition.

Click the download link to view the next page - a summary of the differeneces between the Standard (free) version and the Deluxe (paid) version of Legacy.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and complete the validation information (your email address).

Click the 'Next Step' button when you have completed the validation information (minimum = email address).

Click on either of the download boxes, then click 'Save File'. The Legacy file (Legacy7Setup.exe) file will then download to your computer (to your previously nominated download folder).
How do I get the (Paid) Deluxe Version of Legacy
All online purchases are made with a credit/debit card
Follow the same procedure as above for the free standard version except select the 'Buy Now' option.

The 'Buy Now' button will take you to a new page where you can select from a number of purchase options. Select the option that best suits you and follow the prompts.

The least expensive purchase option is to buy a download version (US$29.95). Choose this option unless you want to receive the Legacy CD and/or printed manual. Fully installed Legacy comes with an extensive online help facility (no manual needed). Also, you don't need a CD as the latest version of Legacy is always available as a download on their web site.
THE (FREE) STANDARD VERSION IS, IN FACT, A FULL DELUXE VERSION BUT HAS THE FULL VERSION FEATURES BLOCKED. ON PAYMENT FOR THE FULL VERSION YOU RECEIVE AN EMAIL WITH THE KEY (INDIVIDUAL CUSTOMER CODE) THAT UNLOCKS THE STANDARD VERSION AND TRANSFORMS IT INTO THE DELUXE VERSION.
AS LONG AS YOU HAVE YOUR INDIVIDUAL CUSTOMER CODE YOU CAN ALWAYS TURN THE FREE STANDARD VERSION INTO THE DELUXE VERSION.
Install Legacy on Your Computer
Locate the file 'Legacy7Setup.exe' on your computer harddrive. Highlight the file by right clicking on the file icon and selecting 'Run' from the menu.

Follow the install prompts and Legacy will install itself on your computer. Legacy's default installation is on your primary hard drice (normally C drive so the path will look like this
C:/Legacy/

The installation process should install a Legacy desktop icon making it easy for you to start the programme. Just click the icon to launch Legacy.

To convert the free Standard version of Legacy to the paid Deluxe version you have to enter your individual customer code when prompted
